IP67 Wall Mountable Temperature Data Logger with LCD Display and Built-In Temperature Sensor.

Used primarily for logging of temperature in fridges, freezers, buildings, tansport of goods and foods, the S0110 Datalogger has a bulit in temperature sensor display and battery life of up to 6 years. The temperature sensor is capable of measuring from -30 to +70°C with high accuravy and the recorded data is transferred to a PC using specially built USB cable, RS232 cable, Ethernet interface or GSM Modem. Please select one of these from the accessories list on the right. The device is wall mountable and very straight forward to install and setup.

A traceable calibration certificate shipped with this unit ensures that all recorded temperature is in accordance with the required standards

The S0110 has an integrated temperature sensor, so you get all you need in one package

How do I Configure my datalogger and download the data to my PC/Server?

You can use one of either RS232, USB, Ethernet or GSM kits from the Accessories section.

How do I get text alerts from my datalogger?

Use the GSM connection Kit from the Accessories section.

S0110 digital temperature logger technical overview

The S0110 is an integrated electronic digital thermometer designed to record ambient air temperature to non-volatile memory. The S0110 is a completely stand alone battery powered logger capable of running 6 years or more before a battery change is required. Integrated into the S0110 is a display that shows not only the current temperature, but also the minimum and maximum temperatures that have been recorded. An optical data connection means that there are no electrical connectors, making the logger completely waterproof allowing operation in condensing environments such as fridges. The S0110 is supplied with a calibration certificate that assures that its measurements are traceable back to national standards.

Logger setup

In order to set up the logger to record temperature values, the S0110 data logger first needs to be configured to operate in the manner desired in the application. Configuration is done by running the program SWR004 on a PC. In addition an adapter cable is required to connect the S0110 to the PC. The adapter cable needs to be ordered separately from the logger. The single adapter cable may be shared between many loggers. This can be one of the following:

  • USB adapter LP003 (1.5m cable)
  • RS232 adapter LP012
  • LAN adapter LP005 (0.5m cable)
  • LAN adapter LP005-5 (5m cable)

The adapter cable clips to the optical port of the S0110 temperature logger and allows connection to the PC either by Ethernet/IP, USB or RS232 (dependent on the adapter used). Full details can be read on the SWR004 page

Temperature recording

The recording intervals offered are 10, 20 & 30 seconds; 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 15, 20 & 30 minutes; 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12 & 24 hours.

The temperature recording mode may be set to cyclic or non-cyclic. In non-cyclic data logging, once the log memory is full (32504 temperature records) further logging stops (although the display will still show the current temperature). In cyclic data logging, once the memory is full, the oldest data values are overwritten by the latest data. In cyclic logging mode the log size is slightly smaller at 28896 temperature records. Logging at an interval of once/minute will mean that the log will start to overwrite itself after approximately 20 days while at one measurement/hour the log will take 39 months before it starts to overwrite!

Additionally, logging may be made conditional on temperature being in an alarm condition. This means that the log of recorded values will be either all values regardless of alarm state, or only those values measured when the S0110 is in alarm. Alarm limits are high / low temperature threshold set by the SWR004 software.

Starting and stopping temperature logging

The temperature logging function can be initiated and stopped in a number of ways:

  • Use of the start stop magnet (optional accessory)
  • Via a connected PC using the SWR004 software
  • Programmed to turn on at a specific day and time by use of the SWR004 software

Use of the start/stop magnet is useful when the data logger is being used to monitor a fridge or freezer as it can be turned on and off when placed onto / taken out of the fridge/freezer. This prevents false high temperature records when the data logger is transferred to a PC to download the logged temperature records.

Temperature monitoring verification for Medicines

The Department of Health, Social Services and Public safety (http://www.dhsspsni.gov.uk) is responsible for safety practices in hospitals and doctors surgeries. The Health and Personal Social Services (HPSS) Security Manual refers to "The Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines: A Team Approach (Duthie Report) published by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain March 2005" available at http://www.dhsspsni.gov.uk/the-safe-and-secure-handling-of-medicines.pdf.

This states that "There should be monitoring of the temperature of the refrigerator on each working day using a calibrated maximum-minimum thermometer or other approved monitoring device". The S0110 temperature recorder is capable of providing this validation.

The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (http://www.mhra.gov.uk) has also produced a useful guide "Recommendations on the control and monitoring of storage and transportation temperatures of medicinal products (01 Jan 2001) available at http://www.mhra.gov.uk/home/groups/comms-ic/documents/publication/con007569.pdf. THis says "The minimum requirement for temperature monitoring is for a thermometer which measures maximum and minimum temperatures to be placed within the load, so that as far as possible it is not affected by repeatedly opening and closing the door. The thermometer should be read and reset daily and the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded.". Again, the S0110 provides this compliance.

Temperature recording for food storage in fridges and freezers

The Food Standards Agency (http://www.food.gov.uk/) provides guidance for kitchens, restaurants, etc on food safety. They require such businesses to have a food safety management systems based on principles of HACCP (hazard analysis and critical control point).

Regulation (EC) 852/2004 provides a requirement for food businesses operators to assess hazards arising from catering operations and to apply effective control and monitoring procedures. These regulations, in addition to Schedule 4 of the Food Hygiene Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006, also detail temperature control requirements.

The Food Standards Agency provides a guidance document, "House Rules Temperature Control" available at http://www.food.gov.uk/multimedia/pdfs/cshrtempcontrol.pdf. This states that "You must ensure that the Temperature Control Critical Limits you set for all high risk foods held in your kitchen are regularly monitored"

Sensormetrix believes that the S0110 is a good fit to provide the required regulatory compliance. It provides both temperature and the minimum/maximum records required. Additionally, being waterproof, the S0110 can be regularly washed to maintain good hygiene practices.
