Ordering Information

The 780C base unit is always required. The 780C base unit includes the HDMI, HDBaseT and 3G-SDI input and outputs, and component analogue (VGA) output via the HD-15 socket. It supports all advertised features except as described specifically as an option.

Options may be added to a 780C at a later date. Please supply unit serial number with order in this case.

Details

The Quantum Data780C is a multi-interface video and audio signal tester. This test equipment features HDMI, HDBaseT and 3G-SDI inputs and outputs in the same tester to allow both sources and displays to be tested using the same test instrument.

The Quantum Data 780C interoperability tester is a battery powered portable digital audio and video generator and analyzer that enables the user to run audio and video tests either via the touchscreen or by a remote command line interface. These tests could be on a variety of equipment such as HDTVs, AV receivers, AV distribution equipment either on an installation site, television studio, hotel, or even R&D facility. The 780C audio and video test instrument features a 7 inch colour touch screen for user control and for viewing the status of outgoing and incoming video and audio. The 780C is equipped with multiple interface types including HDMI, HDBaseT, 3G-SDI (capable of handling 4K videofor HDMI/HDBaseT, 2K for 3G-SDI) and component analogue. Testing of HDMI, HDBaseT and 3G-SDI digital video interfaces is supported by both input and output interface which allows testing of digital video sources, displays, audio devices, standards convertors and distribution devices.

  • HDMI Tx and Rx ports. The 780C can emulate an HDMI source or and HDMI sink operating at pixel rates up to 300MHz. This allows for testing of 4K ultra high definition sources and sinks operating at 50/60Hz using HDMI 2.0 4:2:0 pixel encoding.
  • HDBaseT Tx and Rx ports. The 780C can emulate an HDBaseT source or sink operating at pixel rates up to 300MHz. This supports testing of 4K ultra high definition sources and sinks operating at 50/60Hz using HDMI 2.0 4:2:0 pixel encoding. The HDBaseT input/output interfaces are indispensible for testing AV distribution equipment with HDBaseT and HDMI interfaces.
  • 3G-SDI Tx and Rx ports. The 780C can emulate both 3G-SDI sources and sinks operating at data rates up to 2.97bps. This enables testing of 3G-SDI sources and sinks as well as hybrid conversion SDI conversion devices. The 3G-SDI interfaces are invaluable for testing incoming 3G-SDI video streams and for testing 3G-SDI monitors that are commonly found in broadcast environments.
  • Analogue component video. Send video patterns to test RGB and component YPbPr on video displays supporting an analogue input. Test patterns using both CEA and VESA timings are available for testing both televisions and computer monitors.

A common use of the 780C is as a pattern generator for calibrating high definition TVs and monitors. The 780C is equipped with a variety of standard patterns and formats including deep color and HDMI 3D formats. Additional test pattern packs are available containing ISF and THX test patterns for more complete and exhaustive testing of displays (see ordering options).

The cable test option allows cables and extenders to be tested before installation to ensure that they are capable of handling the video signals being used. This is more than an electrical connectivity test - the 780C will qualify the cable using a full bit error rate test. Because the 780C instrument features both HDMI/HDBaseT output and HDMI/HDBaseT input ports, it is possible to test HDMI/HDBaseT cables and systems with splitters, extenders and switches even when already installed on site using the Frame Compare feature.

The 780C may also be fitted with an optional Auxiliary Channel Analyzer (ACA) utility for monitoring the DDC (HDCP and EDID) transactions and hot plug events. The ACA may be used in two ways - one for monitoring while emulating an HDMI source and/or sink and the other way is to passively monitor an HDMI signal being passed through the ACA input and output HDMI connectors. The passive monitor allows for the monitoring and examination of transactions occurring between a source and sink.

The battery operation of the 780C allows for portability which makes it ideal for both bench and field work. The colour touch-screen display makes the 780C easy and convenient to use. When testing a source devices it is possible to view the incoming video image and metadata on the built-in colour LCD.

Standard Features (included with all options)

  • Portable form factor. Device may be powered from internal rechargeable batteries, or externally via an AC mains adapter.
  • Video pattern testing. Test a display's HDMI, HDBaseT, 3G-SDI and analogue component inputs with all the necessary VESA and CEA standard timings to ensure that it can render video test patterns including deep color and HDMI 3D patterns. Over 50 video patterns and 300 resolutions supported. Add custom bitmap images. Create your own custom formats. Scroll bitmap patterns to test for motion artifacts.
  • Audio testing. Send audio patterns, tones & noise through HDMI, SPDIF or Optical digital audio outputs including over HDMI 1.4 ARC channel. Program audio parameters such as sampling rate, bit depth and channels. Use a variety of audio formats including LPCM, Dolby, DTS and high bit rate audio formats such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio.
  • HDMI analyzer for sources. Emulate a known-good HDMI sink (display) device to analyze the received HDMI video and audio content from an HDMI source device with HDCP content protection. View the incoming video images and metadata from an HDMI source device on the LCD display even when content is protected with HDCP. See real time HDCP status.
  • Installer Test Utility. Quickly diagnose HDMI interoperability problems through an automated and simplified interface. Run tests upstream toward the source, downstream toward the sink or test both upstream and downstream simultaneously with the "Link" test. The utility also enables you to test on both sides of a repeater.
  • 4K compatible. The HDMI and HDBaseT interfaces support 4K resolutions. HDMI 2.0 features supported including 4:2:0 colour and 21:9 aspect ratio, allowing 4Kp60 video support.
  • Verify HDCP on repeaters and displays. Send HDCP encrypted video content to a downstream repeater (e.g. AVR) and/or sink (e.g. DTV). Check the authentication response from the sink.
  • Check Max HDCP HDMI devices. Check the number of HDCP devices an HDMI source supports during HDCP authentication.
  • Verify video timing. Verify the timing of an HDMI source. Compare against a known-good timing.
  • Verify video type. Verify the video type of an HDMI source. View AVI infoframe content.
  • Identify EDID problems. Run verification tests on the EDID of a sink device such as an HDTV or input of a repeater device. View the entire contents of the EDID of the sink device. Run portions of the EDID compliance test. Compare two EDIDS.
  • Read and save EDIDs. Read EDIDs from displays and then use them on the receiver port of the 780C in order to emulate the display that the EDID was saved from to check a sources response to the EDID. Save the EDIDs and create your own EDID library.
  • Verify audio data. Read the audio infoframes and audio sample packet headers including channel status bits from a connected HDMI source.
  • Check for CEC devices. Poll an HDMI installation for CEC devices.
  • Passthrough. Pass incoming HDMI, HDBaseT or 3G-SDI out of the HDMI output port for monitoring.

HDMI, HDBaseT and 3G-SDI Cable & Link Test Option

  • Verify HDMI and HDBaseT (Cat5/6) cables. Run tests on HDMI or HDBaseT cables and Baluns. Test for pixel errors on multiple formats (resolutions) on the TMDS video and check continuity on the 5 volt, hot plug and DDC lines. Test will display the bit error rate of the cable at different video resolutions.
  • Prequalify HDMI and HDBaseT networks (prior to installation) with Repeater Test. Verify HDMI networks comprised of cables, audio/video processors, extenders, switches, repeaters, etc. prior to installation. Test for pixel errors on multiple formats (resolutions) on the TMDS video and check continuity on the 5 volt, hot plug and DDC lines.
  • Test HDMI/HDBaseT networks (once installed) with Frame Compare test. Verify HDMI/HDBaseT networks comprised of cables, audio/video processors, extenders, switches, repeaters, etc. once installed. Test for pixel errors on the TMDS video.

Auto EDID Test Option

  • Specify a set of EDIDs for Testing. Specify a set of EDIDs to emulate in the 780C HDMI or HDBaseT input port. These can be commercial EDIDs, EDIDs from Quantum Data EDID Library, custom EDIDs created using Quantum Data EDID Editor utility or known-bad "Test" EDIDs.
  • Verify Source Device Handling of EDIDs. Test verifies the incoming video type, timing, colorimetry, sampling and Video Identification Code and flags improper handling.
  • Auto EDID Test Report. A text report can be generated to allow sharing the results with colleagues or for later viewing.

HDMI Auxiliary Channel Analyzer (ACA) Option

  • Active Monitoring of DDC transactions and hot plug events. Monitor the HDCP and EDID transactions on the DDC and also monitor CEC and hot plug related events while the 780 is emulating a known-good source device or a known-good display device. This works with both HDMI and HDBaseT interface, transmit and receive.
  • Passive Monitoring of DDC trasactions and hot plug events. Monitor the HDCP and EDID transactions on the DDC and also monitor CEC and hot plug related events while the 780C is passively monitoring an HDMI system comprised of multiple devices. In this mode the HDMI connection is looped through the 780C, allowing the interaction between an external source and sink to be passively monitored. This is very useful to detect and record timing problems on the DDC and hotplug.
  • Record Monitored EDID, HCDP, CEC and hot plug transactions. Allows traces to be captured of problem events that can be shared with colleagues. Free PC viewer available that facilitates this.

Custom Bitmap Test Pattern Pack Options

China Resolution Test Pattern Package

The China Resolution test pattern is specified by the National Testing and Inspection Center for Radio and TV Products of China. The image pack includes both a standard definition aspect ratio (shown right) and a high definition aspect ratio. This test pattern is supported at: 1920x1080, 1280x720, 720x576 and 720x480 resolutions.
