The 980 Protocol Analyser provides full visibility into the HDMI and MHL protocol, timing, control and auxiliary data at HDMI 1.4a speeds.

The 980 HDMI Protocol Analyser module is designed for deep analysis of HDMI and MHL streams. Additionally this unit is designed for HDMI and MHL compliance testing for source, sink, repeater/dongle devices. For HDMI the tool provides full visibility into the HDMI protocol, timing, control and auxiliary data up to 300MHz (HDMI) which supports testing of HDMI 2.0 4K Ultra HD sources at 50/60Hz. For MHL the module supports analysis of MHL 1.2, 1.3, 2.0, and 2.1 source devices. The 980 HDMI Protocol Analyser module can be equipped in either of the:

1) 980 ATP - 2-slot, 10.4" touch display

2) 980B ATP - 5-slot, 15" touch display

980 GUI MANAGER

The 980 Protocol Analyser module can be controlled either through the PC-based 980 GUI Manager or through the embedded 980 GUI Manager running on the 980 platform itself. The 980/980B built-in color touch screen provides a graphical user interface (GUI) to control the module and run the compliance tests.

COMPLIANCE TESTING

The 980 HDMI Protocol Analyzer module provides the deep analysis and compliance test features necessary to enable you to get your product to market more quickly and with reduced expense. The comprehensive suite of HDMI and MHL compliance test tools for sources, sinks and dongles (MHL). This includes HDMI 2.0 compliance tests for EDIDs on sink devices and 4:2:0 pixel encoding on source and sink devices. The compliance tests are ideal for pre-testing your product prior to submission to an Authorised Test Centre (ATC) for approval. Pre-testing provides added assurance that your product will pass on the first submission to the ATC. Where permitted, the 980 HDMI Protocol Analyser can be used to self-test your HDMI product. Self-testing offers even greater benefits for time to market and cost reduction than pre-testing. The instrument provides all the necessary raw data test results to demonstrate compliance.

DEEP ANALYSIS - DIAGNOSING INTEROPERABILITY PROBLEMS

The 980 HDMI Protocol Analyser module captures and decodes encrypted or unencrypted metadata (protocol data, audio sample, infoframes and other data islands) as well as HDMI DDC and MHL C-Bus transactions and HDMI CEC messages. Unlike competing analysers for HDMI and MHL protocol testing, the 980 captures all protocol data, data islands and control packets with accurate timestamps even when they are transmitted in rapid succession. Deep analysis enables you to identify and resolve interoperability problems early in the life cycle.

OPERATIONAL MODES

The 980 operates in one of two modes: Capture mode or Real Time mode. In the Capture mode, the 980 captures and decodes either unencrypted or HDCP-encrypted HDMI or MHL metadata. You can trigger a capture on a variety of conditions or events. Once the data is captured, the 980 GUI Manager presents the data in an easy to understand way through its graphical user interface. You can filter and search through the captured data. The Capture mode enables you to store data permanently and disseminate to subject matter experts at other locations.

DATA PORTABILITY

Both the captured data as well as compliance test data can be stored permanently and disseminated to subject matter experts at other locations. The 980 test instrument is not required to view the test results. The results and logs can be viewed through the 980 GUI Manager which is free and available from the Quantum Data website.

REAL TIME MODE

The Real Time mode feature enables you to select which type of data to view in real time. Infoframes and other data islands, timing data, HDCP and EDID transactions can all be viewed in real time. You can observe changes in these data as changes are made in the source device.

PASSIVE MONITORING ENCRYPTED CONTENT

The optional Encrypted Link Analyzer is a unique test application that enables developers to monitor, capture and analyze HDCP encrypted protocol data transmitted between an HDMI source device and sink device. This enables developers to investigate HDMI interoperability while the content is encrypted by analyzing the captured metadata or viewing it in real time and also observing the behavior of the downstream sink device. This solution enables the 980 to have full visibility into the protocols of encrypted data with the greatest degree of transparency.

  • HDMI & MHL support. Analyzes HDMI 1.4a and MHL streams from source devices. Supports analysis of HDMI 3D and deep colour source content. Product option #1: 980 225MHz ("Gen 2") at pixel rates up to 225MHz with TMDS rates up to 2.25Gb/s (per pair). Product option #2: 980 297MHz ("Gen 3") at HDMI pixel rates up to 297MHz with TMDS rates up to 2.97Gb/s (per pair).
  • Built-in touch screen display. Enables control of the 980 directly through the 980 built-in colour touch screen display. Also enables viewing incoming video--even when encrypted with HDCP--as a confidence check and for controlling the menus of source devices.
  • Real Time monitoring mode. View the HDMI and MHL metadata and HDMI DDC (MHL C-Bus) traffic in real time using the Real Time monitoring mode.
  • Passive Monitoring. Captures and decodes video passively between a source and a sink device at speeds up to 165MHz ("Gen 2") and 297MHz ("Gen 3"). All data is captured if the content from the source is not HDCP encrypted. Once the source content is encrypted, only the DDC, CEC and timing parameters are captured (but see Encrypted Link Analyser option).
  • Data Island Decoding. Decodes all data island types even when content is encrypted with HDCP. Data collected includes: General Control Packets, AVI and Audio Infoframes, Vendor Specific Data with 3D content, Source Product Descriptor, Audio Clock Regeneration, Audio Sample packets—including the decoding of the Channel Status Bits and the control bits.
  • Protocol Decoding. Decodes protocol data such as guard band and preamble. Enables diagnosis of failures during the source protocol compliance tests.
  • DDC/C-Bus Data Decoding. Decodes all HDMI DDC (MHL C-Bus) transactions including EDID reads and HDCP authentication. HDCP registers are decoded in human readable text and pinpoint failures in authentication. For example it is possible to easily determine if authentication fails due to improper setting of an HDCP register value or if HDCP registers are read at the wrong time.
  • HDMI CEC Data Decoding. View the HDMI CEC messages for addressing, routing, one touch play, etc.
  • HEAC Traffic Generation and Monitoring. Generate and monitor the HEAC traffic for testing the HDMI 1.4a features Audio Return Channel (ARC) and HDMI Ethernet Channel (HEC).
  • Triggering and Pre-capture Filtering. Set up triggers on data island packet values as well as timing and control events. Use pre-capture filtering to capture the specific data required.
  • Filtering of Data Transactions. Check box filtering allows removal of data types from view that are not of interested. Filter out all data islands except audio sample packets and audio infoframes, for example, to compare the respective values for sampling rate.
  • Searching Through Data. Search through the captured data to locate the specific occurrence of the data and or events that are of interest.
  • Timing Analysis. Verify timing parameters from HDMI source devices including all horizontal and vertical parameters and pixel clock. The timing values are compared against a set of standard timings and any deviation is indicated.
  • Audio Analysis. Verify audio metadata and identify inconsistencies that could result in interoperability problems.
  • AVmute Test. Verify that the attached source has implemented AVmute properly.
  • Pixel Values. View the component colour values for any pixel including deep colour video.

  • HDMI Sink Compliance Test for HDMI 1.4b. Tests HDMI sink devices for compliance to HDMI CTS 1.4a test IDs 8-1 through 8-32 (except 8-4 ~ 8-14, 8-22, and 8-28). Note that a Quantum Data 882E is additionaly required for test ID 8-27.
  • EDID Sink Compliance Test for HDMI. Tests HDMI sink devices for compliance to Section 8.2 Sink - EDID / E-DDC and 8.5 video timings of the HDMI 1.4a Compliance Test Specification (CTS).
  • MHL Source Compliance Test for MHL CTS 1.0. Tests MHL source devices for compliance to Section 3 of the Mobile High Definition Link (MHL) Compliance Test Specification. This test requires the the TPA-MHL-8R Test Point Adapter. Only supported on 980 Protocol Analyzer 297MHz ("Gen 3").
  • MHL Sink Compliance Test for MHL CTS 1.0. Tests MHL sink devices for compliance to portions of Section 4 of the MHL 1.0 Compliance Test Specification (CTS). This test requires the 882E or 882EA and the TPA-MHL-8R Test Point Adapter. The 980 serves only as a controller for running the tests. Only supported on 980 Protocol Analyzer 297MHz ("Gen 3").
  • Encrypted Link Analyzer. Enables monitoring, capture and analysis of HDCP encrypted protocol data transmitted between an HDMI source device and sink device at speeds up to 165MHz ("Gen 2") and 297MHz ("Gen 3"). This enables investigation HDMI interoperability while the content is encrypted by viewing the protocol, control, timing and auxiliary data in real time and observing the behaviour of the downstream sink device.
